What is Vintec?

Vintec is a biological fungicide and contains spores of the beneficial fungus Trichoderma atroviride strain SC1. This strain was isolated from hazelnut wood. Because wood is its natural environment, it is an excellent and fast wood colonizer.

How is Vintec protecting your crop?

Vintec is characterized by multiple modes of action and shows different biological mechanisms which classifies the product under FRAC BM02.

Formulation and application

Vintec is a WG (water dispersible granules) formulation (a.i. T. atroviride SC1 1×1010 colony forming units per gram). The product dissolves in water very quickly and can be sprayed with any spraying equipment.

Uses of Vintec

Vines

Vintec was first developed for the protection of grapevine plants from Esca. Esca is one of the most destructive grapevine trunk diseases and is caused by several pathogenic fungi. The two main pathogens associated with the disease are Phaeomoniella chlamydospora (Pch) and Phaeoacremonium aleophilum (Pal). Infection commonly occurs in the vineyard or in the nursery where pruning or grafting wounds can be easily colonized by the conidia of the pathogens. Symptoms are not immediately visible on young plants but will appear on mature grapevines. This makes the disease particularly dangerous, as the vineyard might be already infected without showing any symptoms.

Symptoms:

Following the application of Vintec directly on the pruning wounds or in the nursery during the production of the young plants, the exposed wood will be rapidly colonized by T. atroviride SC1. As a result, the plant is protected against the entrance of the pathogens. A high competition at the colonization site occurs accompanied by good biocontrol activity due to the production of lytic enzymes that degrade the pathogens

Following the successful registration of Vintec against Esca on vines, Bi-PA developed the use against Botrytis cinerea on vines.

Greenhouse tomato and other fruiting crops

Vintec provides good protection against Botrytis cinerea on tomato. Similarly to the pruning wound protection on vines, Trichoderma is able to colonize and protect from Botrytis infection on the tomato leaf stalks.

The stem wounds are usually the primary target site and the main point of entrance for Botrytis and this pathogen can be a big problem especially for tomato cultivated under protected conditions.

Stone Fruits

The product was later developed for the use against  important stone fruits pathogens like Coryneum, Monilinia and Taphrina.

Vintec is an innovative product that provides a sustainable solution for the investigated crops in conventional but also organic agriculture.

To date, VINTEC is registered for use in the following countries :
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom, United States of America (California)

Always comply with the instructions for use on the label.

Further development of the product is still undergoing and in the near future the label will expand even more.
